The Quietest Place In The World

Blog Post #34

It may be impossible to fully grasp the true dimensions of our universe, but the silence it creates is the most beautiful sound in the world. That is why when you hear it with all its vastness, it can loosen your mind and bring you into a different state of awareness.

The path to inspiration requires breaking away from what we’re accustomed to doing in our daily lives. It can be overwhelming when we’re consumed with work, meetings, carpools, errands, and social obligations. There’s a way for us all to calm down and find peace. It might seem counterintuitive to “stay” so much, but if you can remain still, your mind will open up a new pathway to be inspired.

Dreaming in the silence of being present

You can find silence in the loudest city, and peace in the middle of a battlefield. We never really notice it until we lose it, but silence and peace are everywhere. The quietest place in the world is inside your own mind. You may have experienced it while daydreaming or meditating or just spacing out. You’re completely alone with your thoughts, and you’ve noticed that there’s not much going on up there.

The usual mental background noise, the chattering and clatter and jabbering of thoughts have died down to a faint whisper. This is silence: internal quiet. The external kind comes up when we stop thinking about anything in particular; we let go of what we were planning to do next, and we’re just here, now. If something happens if a friend calls you to go to lunch, if a memory pops into your head you’ll get to it then; for now, you’re just hanging out with yourself. This is peace.

Immersing to the ‘soundless sound’ in nature

Nature offers us the opportunity to experience creation in its natural form. Our lives are often taken up with running from one place to another, trying to achieve yet another task on our to-do lists, while nature presents us with a chance to slow down. The soundless sound of nature brings about a special kind of peace that has the power to restore our souls.

It is defined as a state of consciousness that occurs when one is immersed in nature or listening to music. It has been found that this type of sound has a beneficial effect on people’s frame of mind. This is why many natural medicine practitioners often recommend their patients to take walks in parks or listen to music while inhaling the fresh air.

The soundless sound actually exists everywhere. If you go to any place that has natural beauty or has been created by man but is surrounded by nature, you will find that there are many opportunities for you to experience the effects of this type of sound. The birds chirping, winds blowing through leaves, raindrops hitting trees, and even the sound made by flowing water can all bring you peace and relaxation.

Listening to the sound of your breath

In this busy world, it can be easy to forget about the importance of breathing. We also never really think about the sound of our breath as we breathe, but a new study has shown that listening to the sound of your breath could help you to fall asleep. When you first notice that you are becoming stressed, just take a few minutes to slow down and listen to the sound of your breath.

To practice this, pick a time when you’re not distracted (for example, when you’re lying in bed before falling asleep). Put your hand on your belly and focus on the rise and fall of your abdomen as you breathe in and out. It’s also helpful to keep in mind that the purpose of this exercise isn’t to empty your mind, but rather to shift your attention away from what you’re thinking about toward the sensation of your breathing.

If you find that your mind keeps wandering, that’s okay. Each time you notice that happening, just return to focusing on the sound of your breath for an additional minute or so before trying again. Over time, it will get easier to stay focused on the sensation of breathing instead of letting thoughts pull you away.

The effects of simply being quiet are powerful, relaxes stress and anxiety

It seems counterintuitive, but it’s true: the effect of simply being quiet is powerful. It makes you relax and can help you redirect your thoughts. The easiest way to implement this technique is to just take a few minutes each day to sit quietly and not do anything in particular. Some people find it helpful to meditate during this time, while others find that doing nothing at all is best.
