One of the worst things that can happen when your stress levels start to rise is that you eventually reach a point where you feel like nothing will help to reduce it. Your mind is frazzled and you can feel yourself reaching a breaking point, which is why we’re making this list with you in mind. Our bodies are still recovering from the first half of the year when seasonal illnesses like the flu, norovirus, and the stomach bug were all making their rounds around the world. Today let’s talk about 5 ways to relax after a stressful day and relieve some of those aches and pains that have been building up.

Exercise

Exercise is a great way to relieve stress. When we exercise, it releases chemicals called endorphins into our bloodstream, which makes us feel better. Exercise also helps us sleep better at night, and feeling good about getting enough sleep is an important part of relaxing after a stressful day.

Breathe

Breathing slowly and deeply is one of the most effective ways to calm the body and mind. Guided imagery is a particularly good way of reaching a relaxed state because it combines breathing with visualization – using your imagination to create a calming environment in which physical relaxation is far easier.

Buy yourself something nice

Everyone feels better when they’re using their hard-earned cash on something fun, so treat yourself to that fancy coffee drink or a new top. You don’t need a reason to get away from it all, either — just grab a book and go to your favorite park bench or cozy corner at home. These are ways that work for me and I hope they’ll help you too!

Talk about it

Many people find talking about their issues can help them feel better. It’s not necessarily about solving an issue — sometimes just taking time to explain how you feel can really help you put things in perspective. Talk to family or friends when you’re stressed; chances are they’ll have some advice on how to handle the problem, or they’ll be able to listen and make you feel a lot better!

Try hot, warm, cool, or cold baths

A hot bath with Epsom salts helps drain the lymphatic system and can help ease muscle pain caused by stress. Epsom salts are magnesium sulfate crystals that naturally contain both magnesium and sulfur which are known to provide a calming effect when used topically or internally. A warm bath is also comforting and helps relieve muscle tension; try adding lavender or chamomile essential oils for a calming effect. It can also be followed by a few minutes of sitting in the steam will bring down your heart rate and ease tension in your muscles. A cool bath helps calm the body down by lowering your body temperature. They are invigorating and energizing; it prepares your body for the challenges of the day ahead.

Takeaway

Relaxation techniques are different for everyone. Some will prefer listening to music, while others will prefer watching television. In some cases, reading a good book can provide a relaxing effect. After all, it’s important to find what works for you.
